Safety harnesses and fall arrest equipment
Periodic inspection of safety harnesses, lanyards, fall arresters and self-retracting lifelines, with a tag and a record for every unit.
Safety harnesses are used when working aloft, outboard and in cargo holds, and they are worn down by sun, salt and paint. Webbing, stitching and shock absorbers can look sound and still fail to do their job.
Inspection by a competent person at least once a year keeps the equipment reliable and gives inspectors a record for every unit.
Scope
Webbing, stitching, buckles, D-rings and energy absorbers are inspected; non-conforming units are withdrawn from use and tagged.
Function and locking tests, checks of housings and lines; manufacturer servicing is arranged when due.
Tripods, winches and rescue lines kept on board for enclosed space rescue.
Each unit is listed with its serial number, inspection date and result.
