Dräger PSS® 4000
The Dräger PSS 4000 is one of the lightest professional self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) for firefighters; it combines comfort with excellent pneumatic performance and is designed for applications where simplicity and ease of use are crucial. It shares the technology and design philosophy of the leading professional PSS series; the carrying frame has a quick-release buckle and a pull mechanism for fast harness adjustment. The ultra-light space frame is made of a high-quality composite that resists temperature, impact and chemicals. The harness follows the body's natural contours, distributes weight evenly over shoulders and hips and reduces strain on the back. Stainless steel buckles and an aramid fibre harness make it suited to long and intensive use. All main parts are easy to remove and refit; the pressure reducer is integrated into the frame, and closed-weave hip padding prevents water absorption, shortening cleaning and drying times. The medium-pressure supply hose and gauge hose are routed inside the frame, reducing snagging; the gauge side can be chosen and each hose is easy to replace. The optional Dräger Bodyguard 1500 motion alarm and Tx gauge transmit pressure data wirelessly, also to the FPS 7000 head-up display. Options include a choice of lung demand valves, FPS 7000 and Panorama Nova mask configurations, electronic voice communication, steel or carbon composite cylinders, secondary supply hoses for rescue and decontamination, quick fill and a twin-cylinder configuration. According to the technical table, the back plate and harness weigh 2.7 kg and inlet pressure is 0–300 bar; it has a mechanical gauge and a transmitting gauge. Approvals: NEN-EN 137:2006 (type 2), NEN-EN 14593 Part 1, SOLAS II-2 and MED.
