PID Sensors
Dräger PID sensors measure volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in low concentrations in the ppm and ppb range and are compatible with the X-am 7000 and X-am 8000 gas detectors. A PID (photoionisation detector) is used to measure groups of hazardous substances and can even be set to measure individual substances. Applications include clearance measurements during shutdowns in the chemical and petrochemical industry, monitoring work in shafts and confined spaces, and leak detection. Selective benzene measurement is possible with the X-am 8000 and the benzene pre-tube, which filters out all hydrocarbons except benzene. The sensors are calibrated quickly and easily with isobutylene, a harmless gas; the sensitivity to the target substance is then set separately using response factors. Water-repellent membranes in Dräger PID instruments protect the sensor in industrial use, and response times are short.
